Jan had the vision of a small golf league dedicated to providing a non-intimidating environment for women to learn, grow, connect and have fun through the game of golf. The vision has remained the same for the last 10 years and is reflected with Empower, Inspire, Grow, and Connect. We empower you and encourage you to keep score. We inspire you to graduate from clinics and play a scramble with others. We want you to grow your game with professional instruction. We connect you with other ladies in the community. Without BWGL many of the ladies in this room would never have had the opportunity to meet and build the professional and personal relationships that have developed over the years.
Jan retired from Georgia Power after 39 years of service in various roles that had her living in multiple areas of Georgia from Brunswick to Dacula to Valdosta a multiple time then settled in Newnan Ga. While working in her last role as Area Manager, she was required to get to know the community and what better way to do that than on a golf course. Jan will tell you that she had to play with some high-ranking Newnan officials one day and wasn’t happy with her play. So, in the Jan fashion, she started taking lessons, reading books, watching videos, being a range rat and envisioning a way for ladies to get on the golf course; thus, BWGL was founded. In addition, Jan helped form some other leagues in the Atlanta area – Heron Bay, coming soon midtown BWGL. While we think of Jan as the face for BWGL since she has been President for 5 years. Jan is also a member or has been on the board of Middle Ga, Newnan Country Club LGA, Georgia Women’s Golf Association and Georgia Senior Women’s Golf Association. Jan is a member of Club Corp with her home course at CanonGate 1/White Oak.
Jan, thank you for your dedication to women’s golf and your vision of BWGL. Please join me in congratulating BWGL’s 1st Honorary Member, Jan Alligood.
